Cat Tales


Cat Tales is the student newspaper of Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington. Named via a vote of the first graduating class, Cat Tales has served the MSHS community since 1944.

Cat Tales is a member of the National Scholastic Press Association, Washington Journalism Education Assocaition, and the Journalism Euducation Association.


Cat Tales Editorial Policy

Statement of Policy

Cat Tales is the student-produced newspaper and website of Mount Si High School in Snoqualmie, Washington. In accordance with district policy and professional journalism standards as set forth in the Society for Professional Journalists Code of Ethics, the Cat Tales staff strives to report news accurately, objectively and in-depth. The editors, listed in each issue, assign story ideas, edit stories and determine the content of each issue.

Cat Tales serves as a public forum for the free exchange of information, ideas and expression for the MSHS community.



Cat Tales opinion pages act as an open forum for free expression, discussion, debate and inquiry in the form of personal view and guest columns, cartoons and letters to the editor submitted by readers. Bylined editorials represent the views of the author. Non-bylined editorials, such as the “As We See It,” represent the views of a majority of the Cat Tales staff. Articles and cartoons printed in the editorial section are meant to be opinionated and do not necessarily represent the opinions of the Mount Si student body, faculty, administration or the Snoqualmie Valley School Board.


Letters to the Editor

Cat Tales accepts letters to the editor from students, staff and community members. Letters intended for publication must not exceed 300 words, must be legible, and must include the writer’s full name and contact information. The Cat Tales staff reserves the right to reject letters that are libelous or obscene, and to edit as necessary for content, accuracy, spelling and grammar.

Cat Tales will not accept any advertising that we believe to be factually inaccurate; designed to mislead, deceive or defraud; containing malicious, vindictive, or unsubstantiated attacks; offering goods and/or services illegal for all teenagers to possess, buy or use; libelous; obscene; creating imminent danger or disruption to school. Advertisements do not necessarily represent the views or endorsements of the Cat Tales staff or the Mount Si student body, faculty, administration, or the Snoqualmie Valley School Board.


Interpretation and Enforcement

The Editor(s) shall interpret and enforce the editorial policies, but may be overruled by a majority vote of the staff. In interpreting and enforcing said policies, the editors will seek first the advice of their staff and their adviser, and then, if there is disagreement or concern, will contact the editor of a local professional newspaper and/or the Student Press Law Center.
